Around your property basic sediment filtration will stop things like pipes, valves and sprinklers from getting blocked. 

In your home sometimes all that's needed is a simple benchtop water filter attached to your kitchen sink tap.

Other times an underbench filter is preferred. These can range from ones that filter all the water to your cold tap, through to ones that supply a dedicated filter tap on your benchtop.   

Granular activated charcoal or carbon block filters are very popular because they remove chlorine, bad taste, and odour, which makes the water much nicer for drinking.
