Shallow
bores (sandtraps)
If you live in an area where it’s sandy and the groundwater is shallow, we may be able to install a sandtrap to supply you with
groundwater. A sandtrap consists of a very fine stainless steel screen that is connected to an alkathene pipe. The screen is
installed below the groundwater level and a self-priming above-ground pump is connected to the alkathene pipe. There are hundreds of
these installed up and down the Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast. For many people the sandtrap is their only water source. For
others, it's their outdoor, garden water, which conserves their rainwater for household use.
Drilled wells
Sometimes a sandtrap isn't an option. Perhaps the groundwater is too deep to be drawn up with an above-ground pump, or you need more
volume or better quality water than what a sandtrap can provide. If a drilled well is what you need we can put you onto a local
welldriller and work with you to install a pump once your new well is built. Usually this would be a submersible pump that literally
hangs on the end of a pipe within the well and down below the water level.
